Polk County’s Central Florida NatureFest 2014
The Perfect Way To Embrace Nature On Your Central Florida Vacation
With Polk County being home to 554 lakes, more than 375 miles of trails and 47 nature preserves, parks and wildlife management areas, there is no shortage of ways to connect with nature on a Central Florida vacation. While it would take many years to fully explore all of Central Florida’s natural areas, you can get an in-depth introduction during Central Florida NatureFest. Held on October 23-26, NatureFest is an outdoor and photography festival that showcases Polk County’s natural areas and outdoor activities and is one of the most popular things to do in Central Florida.
NatureFest Offers Unique Outdoor Experiences To Make Every Polk County Vacation Memorable
NatureFest is built around discovering many of the unique opportunities that Polk County offers to outdoor enthusiasts. Daily excursions and field trips, led by experienced naturalists, provide up close and personal exploration of the area’s flora, fauna and wildlife. Birders will enjoy NatureFest’s fall bird migration hike at Mosaic Peace River Park or hike amongst numerous wading bird species at Saddle Creek Park. Kayak enthusiasts can participate in paddle trips on Reedy Creek, Walk-in-Water Creek and the Peace River during your Polk County vacation.
Additionally, several excursions are offered only during NatureFest and they are sure to impart a rather unique look at our natural environment. Tom Palmer, environment writer for the Ledger Media Group, will lead a field trip to Lake Blue Scrub, a little known preserve that is home to several rare plant species. Circle B Bar Reserve naturalists will lead a night hike and tram tour at the reserve, while Disney Wilderness Preserve will host the family-friendly Butterflies by Swamp Buggy Tour. Finally, Bok Tower Gardens, a renowned Central Florida attraction, will be the host of two distinctive excursions.
NatureFest Photo Opportunities: Be Sure To Bring Your Camera On Your Central Florida Vacation
While most field trips and excursions lend themselves to taking photographs, this year’s NatureFest event will actually introduce more opportunities to learn or improve your photography skills. Lake Region Audubon Society President Reinier Munguia will lead a five-hour photography workshop at Circle B Bar Reserve that will focus on useful techniques that will help participants take award-winning wildlife photographs. If you are interested in macro photography, Herman Moulder and Mike Leffler will demonstrate techniques for getting up close and personal to your subjects at a field trip held at the Lakeland Highlands Scrub. In addition to in-the-field learning experiences, NatureFest will also offer three days of classroom photography seminars and presentations for those looking to hone their skills and take their photography to another level.
