Florida Outdoor Sculpture Competition

The Florida Outdoor Sculpture Competition, a joint project of Polk Museum of Art and the Cities of Lakeland and Winter Haven, is quickly becoming one of the most prestigious outdoor sculpture competitions in the country. Twenty sculptures are selected by a committee of local community members for the exhibition: ten are installed in downtown Lakeland and ten in downtown Winter Haven. Each city has its own Best of Show, 2nd Place, Honorable Mention and People’s Choice Awards. It’s all about great sculpture – right in the heart of Polk County! “Birds as Art” Photography Exhibit: Arthur Morris at Bok Tower Gardens

Arthur Morris is a school teacher turned freelance nature photographer and writer. Out of 19,000 entries, two of his photographs were awarded prizes in the 1997 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition and another in the 2000 contest. In addition to appearances on television worldwide, more than 11,000 of his photographs have been published in magazines such as National Geographic, American Birds and Audubon as well as in hundreds of books and calendars.

“Winged Creations” Sculpture Exhibit: David Price at Bok Tower Gardens

David Price, current Gardens’ president, is a self taught artist. His art and 26-year career in public gardens was inspired when, as a child, he visited Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina and saw the stone and bronze sculpture displayed in a garden setting. His bronze sculptures capture the form and function of anatomy and convey the attitude of the subject. His work is represented in both private and public collections. The Brewz Crewz - craft beer festival

Effective January 1, 2010, Florida boat operators born on or after January 1, 1988 must complete and pass an approved boater safety course to operate a motorboat of 10 horsepower or more. Boaters in this age group must have, in their possession, photographic identification (i.e. driver’s license) AND a Boating Safety Education Identification Card issued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Successful completion of the course and exam will get you the FL Boating Safety Education ID card. Many insurance companies will offer discounts for taking this class.
